Mission Statement
The mission of the George Peabody House Museum is to investigate, preserve and interpret the life and legacy of native son and philanthropist George Peabody. |
The museum's focus is on the following two areas:
1. George Peabody The story of George Peabody is not limited to a local audience, but has implications worldwide. Since no facility or institution devoted to the life and legacy of George Peabody currently exists, the George Peabody House Museum will fill that void.
2. Leather Industry of Peabody At its peak, Peabody was the leather capital of the world. The leather industry not only served as the heart and lifeline of this diverse city, but it also cooperated with neighboring communities and contributed to the greater North Shore economy. Currently, no other institution collects and interprets objects relating to this important area of Peabody's past. |
