GP sails for London in November to find imports for the American market.
1829 Elisha Riggs retires, and his nephew, Samuel, partners with GP to form Peabody, Riggs & company.
1837 In February, GP sails to London, England, where he will live for the remainder of his life. The offices of George Peabody & Co. of Warnford Court become a mecca for visiting Americans.
1843 GP retires from the firm of Peabody, Riggs & Company as he is securely established in London circles of international finance. He has a reputation as a shrewd and honest banker.
1851 Gives a loan to subsidize the American exhibitors if arts and industry in the first Worlds Fair at the Crystal Palace in London.
1852 Provides funds to the first Peabody Institute in Danvers, to build a free public library and lyceum.
1857 Provides funds to the Peabody Institute in Baltimore.
1862 Establishes the Peabody Donation fund to house the working poor of London.
