Peabody and Salem, MA. The GEORGE PEABODY HOUSE MUSEUM is pleased to announce the opening of their temporary exhibit "George Peabody Commemorative Glassware" at the Salem Regional Visitor Center in Salem, Massachusetts.

The glassware, made by Henry Greener and Company in Sunderland, England, commemorates American philanthropist George Peabody following his death in 1869. The decorative pieces were sold in a variety of colors, shapes and sizes and were very popular with Victorian collectors.

"This commemorative glass collection is one of the museum's prized possessions," said the museum's curator, Marieke Van Damme. "The collection never fails to impress visitors, so we are excited to partner with the visitor center and showcase a sampling of these beautiful dishes."

The Salem Regional Visitor Center is open seven days a week, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and closed on January 1, Thanksgiving Day, and December 25. The exhibition will be up from September 18, 2006 through December 17, 2006. There is no admission charge.

For more information, please visit www.nps.gov/sama. An online exhibit of the glassware is available at www.georgepeabodyhousemuseum.org.
