George Peabody House Museum One of the city's hidden jewels

George Peabody felt connected to the town of Georgetown, Massachusetts. His mother, Judith, was born there, and his sister, also Judith, lived there for many years. George himself visited several times, staying with his sister and her family there.

Peabody was very devoted to supporting the arts and education in America. In 1866 he gave $30,000 to build a library in the town.
